Belarus, Ecuador to implement about 20 R&D projects

MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Ecuador intend to implement about 20 scientific and technical projects in the area of information technologies, applied chemistry and physics, agriculture, space exploration, and renewable energy, BelTA learned from Yuri Lukashevich, Aide to the Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus.

According to the source, the matter was discussed during the meeting of the Committee’s Chairman Alexander Shumilin and Ecuadorian Minister Coordinator of Knowledge and Talent Management Andres Arauz on 2 December. Besides, the possibility of implementing joint projects together with the Hi-Tech Park is being discussed in addition to the establishment of a joint venture in Ecuador to make unmanned aerial systems and products made by the Belarusian R&D company Unmanned Aerial Systems & Technologies (BAK i Tekhnologii).

During the meeting Andres Arauz underlined the interest of the Ecuadorian side in developing and advancing bilateral cooperation across the R&D spectrum. “We know Belarus’ technological abilities and we would like our private and state enterprises to actively use them,” said Andres Arauz. The Ecuadorian official also noted that in the next few years the number of Ecuadorian students, who study at Belarusian universities, will increase considerably. “Scientific and educational projects represent the basis of long-term relations between our countries,” said Andres Arauz.

Andres Arauz also met with Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Kalechits, the Bank’s press service told BelTA. The sides exchanged opinions about integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union and in South America. From this angle the sides discussed the operation of regional development banks, promising avenues of bilateral cooperation between the central banks of Belarus and Ecuador. The sides also agreed to share the best practices and information about a wide range of matters concerning financial and economic affairs.
