Belarus eager to help renew rolling stock of mass transit system in Romania

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Ambassador of Belarus to Romania Andrei Grinkevich took part in an international conference on prospects of improving railway infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe in the city of Brasov on 5-6 March upon the invitation of the Romanian railway transport association Feroviar, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian embassy in Romania.

The ambassador made a presentation of the Belarusian railway industry focusing on possibilities of using Belarus’ transit potential. Meetings with representatives of Romanian and foreign companies and organizations took place. Prospects of participation of Belarusian companies in programs on renewing rolling stock were discussed with representatives of the Bucharest–Ilfov development region administration. Trams and electric buses will be bought within the framework of such programs. The Romanian side is particularly interested in trolleybuses powered by accumulators.

The ambassador also met with representatives of the Swedish company ABB and the French company Alstom. Proposals on establishing and expanding partnerships with Belarusian companies were discussed. Andrei Grinkevich and top officials of the Feroviar Association discussed ways to expand Belarus-Romania cooperation in transportation by rail. The importance of railway service between Belarus and the Romanian cities of Iasi and Galati using the 1520mm railway gauge was emphasized.

Prospects of expanding cooperation of Belarusian and Romanian railways in using the transport corridor North-South with assistance of the Viking train were discussed. Using the infrastructure of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, which is a nodal platform in the Silk Road Economic Belt, was mentioned.

Andrei Grinkevich visited a technopark in the city of Brasov where he met with top executives of Tehmin Brasov Company, which specializes in designing and making equipment for railway infrastructure. Ways to establish partnerships with Belarusian companies, primarily manufacturing cooperation, were discussed.
