MOSCOW, 16 March (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi is in Samara Oblast on a visit on 16-17 March, the embassy’s press service told BelTA.

On 16 March Dmitry Krutoi met with Samara Oblast Governor Dmitry Azarov. The sides discussed in detail the state of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and this region of Russia as well as prospects of advancing manufacturing cooperation. In particular, Dmitry Krutoi and Dmitry Azarov talked over avenues for invigorating deliveries of Belarusian automobile components to Samara Oblast automotive enterprises, opportunities for setting up enterprises to assemble vehicles based on Belarusian MAZ chassis and municipal vehicles in association with Belarusian Amkodor.

The Samara Oblast government also confirmed the interest in resuming direct flights between Minsk and Samara. The Belarusian ambassador suggested utilizing capabilities of Belarusian enterprises for modernizing the passenger vehicle fleet in Samara, particularly trams. The sides also spoke at length about cooperation in agriculture with special emphasis on poultry farming and fish farming. Dmitry Krutoi and Dmitry Azarov also stated that tourism is highly developed yet there is a great untapped potential in this sphere.

While in Samara the Belarusian ambassador also visited an exhibition of automobiles made within the framework of the Joint Product program. The vehicles on display are a joint Belarusian-Russian product made by Russian companies on MAZ chassis. At the exhibition the ambassador talked to representatives of MAZ dealerships about the expansion of manufacturing cooperation, import substitution, and joint overcoming of consequences of the sanctions-fuelled pressure. Close attention was paid to prospects of expanding deliveries of MAZ chassis to assembly enterprises in Russia’s regions in 2023.

Apart from that, Dmitry Krutoi made a speech at the plenary session of the forum-conference on developing the product range of vehicles made by the holding company BelavtoMAZ. The development of import substitution in automobile manufacturing taking into account the realization of the unified industrial policy and the counteraction of sanctions-based pressure was a key topic during the event. Belarusian First Deputy Industry Minister Aleksandr Ogorodnikov and the head of the urban district Samara Yelena Lapushkina also took part in the forum-conference.

In his speech Dmitry Krutoi stressed: “The growing sanctions-based pressure on Russian enterprises has left a mark on manufacturing cooperation relations of Belarusian and Russian enterprises. However, based on the acquired experience, Belarusian enterprises have managed to establish interaction with Russia’s machine-building industry enterprises on a tight schedule. Import substitution programs meant to substitute imports with Belarusian products have been launched and are working.”
