Belarus’ cooperation prospects with Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast outlined

Belarus’ cooperation prospects with Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast outlined

MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast are successfully developing cooperation, but there are areas where the potential for interaction is still hugely untapped, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media after his meeting with Governor of Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast Aleksey Teksler in Chelyabinsk on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

“The first aspect of our cooperation is what we have already done and succeeded in. The second aspect is what we have not yet been able to do, what needs to be finalized in planning our joint activities. We have a very extensive program of industrial cooperation, balanced external supplies. Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) shows an excellent example of cooperation with local manufacturers of superstructures. This cooperation results in the production of concrete mixers, tanks and other products for which there is a very high demand in the neighboring regions. Belarus and Chelyabinsk Oblast have combined their competencies, complemented each other and brought to the market a product that has a high added value,” Roman Golovchenko said.

Another successful joint project is the production of caterpillar tractors. “In terms of industrial cooperation, we need to continue finding new elements that can be added to such projects and move forward,” the prime minister added.

“However, there are areas that are still far from being fully used. Chelyabinsk Oblast has a well-developed intellectual potential, a large number of educational institutions, design bureaus, and institutes. There are opportunities for cooperation in robotics, digitalization, unmanned systems. For example, Belarusian agrodrones. I am sure we will find local structures to cooperate with and offer our innovative developments in agriculture. We are also very interested in investors from Chelyabinsk Oblast coming to Belarus to work for our important program of self-sufficiency in vegetables,” the Belarusian head of government said.

In his words, the parties outlines areas for joint work to enter a wider spectrum of cooperation.

“We expected to sign commercial contracts worth about $15 million during a one-day visit of the Belarusian delegation. This is an important step forward for us,” Roman Golovchenko said.

The Belarusian government delegation led by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko is on a working visit around the Russian regions. The Belarusian head of government visited Ufa on 10-11 October and Chelyabinsk on 12 October.
