MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Belarus considers importing Chinese DNA testing equipment, Chairman of the State Forensics Committee Andrei Shved told during an online conference hosted by BelTA’s website.
“There are arrangements on the acquisition of the Chinese equipment for genetic fingerprinting and some materials for gunshot residue analysis,” Andrei Shved said. “We are extremely interested in reducing the cost of DNA testing. In 2013, when we started, the cost of one set of equipment for this testing was about $20. Thanks to the work we have done over the years, the cost has reduced to $5-7. We expect to make this type of testing even cheaper by cooperating with Chinese partners,” Andrei Shved noted.
Plans are in place to import analytical equipment for DNA testing. “The price/quality ratio is very important for us, and certain Chinese models are cheaper,” stressed Andrei Shved.
According to the Chairman of the State Forensics Committee, there are plans to sign an agreement with the Material Evidence Identity Center at the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. “This agreement will become the basis for further cooperation, and all our arrangements will be put into practice,” Andrei Shved added.
