Belarus, Chinese Sinomach eager to advance cooperation in mechanical engineering

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin met with Chairman of the Board of the Chinese mechanical engineering corporation Sinomach Zhang Xiaolun in Minsk on 1 July. The sides discussed future cooperation matters, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.
The Belarusian government and the Chinese corporation signed an agreement on strategic cooperation five years ago. Large-scale investment projects are being implemented in Belarus thanks to the agreement. Sinomach has made a huge contribution to the development and establishment of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. Aleksandr Turchin said: “I would like to thank you for this support. In my opinion, it would have been very difficult to implement this project without this support.”
Companies residing in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone enjoy a unique legal regime. Engineering and transport infrastructure has been created as well. “Now the park needs large-scale projects able to bring accompanying manufacturing. It is also necessary to set up specialized industry-specific clusters. We count on Sinomach’s support in these matters,” Aleksandr Turchin said.
The meeting touched upon cooperation in the sphere of mechanical engineering. “Belarus is traditionally strong in mechanical engineering. In my opinion, we should have joint projects in this area. I head the supervisory board of [the mechanical engineering company] Gomselmash, this is why I am interested in hearing your opinion about possible prospects of cooperation with this enterprise,” Aleksandr Turchin noted.
Zhang Xiaolun said that it was his first visit to Belarus. “Your country has made a very good impression, including the weather, the Belarusian people, and our joint project to set up the Great Stone park. An exhibition is in progress in the park right now. A lot of companies are taking part in it. It means Belarus and China truly enjoy very good relations, this is why the companies would like to come here and start their own business. It means that our joint project Great Stone is now more famous,” he stressed.
Speaking about cooperation in mechanical engineering, Zhang Xiaolun said that the industry minister and the ambassador of Belarus to China visited Sinomach in February 2019 and mentioned their interest in cooperation in mechanical engineering. “I support this idea because Belarus has a very good foundation in this field,” Zhang Xiaolun said. He reminded that there were examples of cooperation with the Belarusian tractor factory MTZ.
The Belarusian government and the Chinese corporation Sinomach signed the agreement on strategic cooperation in June 2014. Companies belonging to the corporation are busy implementing a number of large-scale projects. In particular, the Vitebsk hydropower plant has been built on the Zapadnaya Dvina River. The construction of power lines, engineering and transport infrastructure is in progress in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.
Sinomach is one of China’s largest state corporations. At present it is one of China’s leading designers and manufacturers of machine-building equipment. The corporation comprises over 50 daughter enterprises, 140 representative offices and branches operating in various countries across the globe. The corporation has implemented projects in over 170 countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and America. For the last few years Sinomach has been a Fortune 500 company.
