Belarus, China to implement 35 joint tech projects by 2021

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Belarus and China are set to implement 35 joint sci-tech projects in 2019-2020; 20 of them have already received financing and 15 are under scrutiny in China, Chairman of Belarus’ State Science and Technology Committee Aleksandr Shumilin said at the opening of the 2nd international conference to discuss China's policy of reforms and openness and its relevance for Belarus' model of sustainable social and economic development, BelTA learned from the press service of the committee.

According to Aleksandr Shumilin, Belarus runs three times more joint projects with China than with any other country and the number of such projects increases by a quarter every year. “Joint projects cover areas like microelectronics, optical and laser technologies, biotechnologies, new materials and other fields,” said Aleksandr Shumilin. “This year, we launched a project to develop energy-saving benches to test tractor transmissions during agricultural works and a project to create a new type of a photo-controlled phase modulator to be used in space research and communications,” he informed.

He noted that the BSU Sat-1 satellite of Belarusian State University was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in October 2018. It is one of the most interesting and promising joint projects. The satellite was launched to operate in Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of 500km.

A special commission at the Belarus-China intergovernmental cooperation commission helps facilitate collaboration in science, technology and innovations. The Belarus-China tech cooperation program for 2019-2020 was signed following the second meeting of the commission. The program features promising and strategic projects aimed at improving joint infrastructure and creating joint ventures. A testing center was set up at the joint institute of Dalian Polytechnic University and Belarusian State University as part of the program in 2019.

Work is underway to set up a China-Belarus center for incubating innovative projects at Belarusian National Technical University and the University of Shanghai. A Belarus-China cooperation center of scientific and technological achievements transformation is being built at the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone.
