MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) - Belarus and China will develop a roadmap for cooperation in implementing the Chinese initiative One Belt, One Road, Belarus’ Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Yaroshenko said when speaking at a conference on the Chinese economy, Belarusian-Chinese cooperation and joint development of the Silk Road economic zone on 24 March, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Yaroshenko noted that the Economy Ministry together with departments concerned is developing a draft road map which will include a specific list of areas, projects and activities. It will be a clear and comprehensible plan of joint actions for Belarus’ participation in the Silk Road economic belt.
“Transport infrastructure, logistics, industrial cooperation, information and communication technologies are the key areas where we are ready to actively develop cooperation with China as part of the One Belt, One Road initiative. Belarus is working on integrating its own transport infrastructure into the global network by strengthening international cooperation in the matters of construction of roads, bridges, electrification and reconstruction of the Belarusian railways, energy, information and communication technologies and other infrastructure,” Alexander Yaroshenko said.
One of Belarus’ initiatives in implementing the concept is to create an information economic belt of the Silk Road. Particularly important is the establishment of a unified approach to interaction with China, taking into account the global trend towards the globalization of the information space. Traditional communication and exchange of information are moving to the Internet which uses various routes to deliver information between Belarus and China. Belarusian data centers created with the participation of Chinese companies are designed to become one of the main platforms for the development of information cooperation. “And most importantly, they will provide assistance in promotion of Chinese partners in the European information space, including Chinese telecom products and technologies,” Alexander Yaroshenko noted.
The conference was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Belarus. Attending the event were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming, representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Economy Ministry, the China-Belarus Industrial Park, the Departments of International Relations and Economics of Belarusian State University, and the Belarusian-Chinese Friendship Society.
