Belarus, China mulling over inter-publishing center

MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Belarus and China are looking into the opportunity of setting up an international inter-publishing center, director of the publishing house Mastatskaya Litaratura Alexander Badak told the media on 29 August, BelTA has learned.

During the talks held at the Beijing International Book Fair, the Chinese party suggested setting up a Chinese editorial board at Mastatskaya Litaratura. “This editorial board will be responsible for joint projects. This form of cooperation is not new. Such cooperation has already been established in Poland and Bulgaria,” Alexander Badak said.

“Another proposal made in Beijing regarding Mastatskaya Litaratura was the development of an international inter-publishing center. This perspective, however, is a distant one. I think our Chinese colleagues would like to see how we develop relations with the Chinese editorial board at the publishing house. After that, perhaps, such a center will be set up. It will be able to accumulate all things that take place in book publishing between China and Belarus. This is both a financial and cultural advantage for us,” he added.

The Beijing International Book Fair was held in the Chinese capital on 22-27 August. Belarusian book publishers took part in it. An agreement was signed during the exhibition to issue a series of books entitled as Conceptual Issues of Chinese Culture. The parties considered the possibility of producing Belarusian-Chinese and Chinese-Belarusian dictionaries and Chinese phrasebooks jointly with Belarusian Encyclopedia publishing house, discussed the technological capabilities of HUAWEI to improve the activity and modernization of the bookselling network Belkniga, taking into account the company's SEO capabilities. In turn, China showed interest in the publication of Belarusian folk tales in Chinese.
