Belarus, China ink agreement on rail car scanning system for Brest railway station

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – An agreement has been signed between the governments of Belarus and China on implementing a project for building and delivering an inspection system for the Belarusian customs service. The system is designed to examine commodities transported by rail. The document was signed at premises of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

As a result of the agreement’s implementation a railway cargo inspection system will be built by the Chinese company Nuctech at the Brest North railway station in the city of Brest in the operational area of the Brest division of the Belarusian customs service, noted Yuri Senko, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

As part of the agreement’s implementation Belarus is expected to get €4.4 million worth of technical and economic aid from China within one year.

The scanner will greatly improve the quality of customs control of the freight transported between China and Europe and will reduce the downtime of rolling stock caused by the need to perform customs control operations. The equipment is expected to improve suppression of contraband and administrative customs violations. It will also improve the effectiveness of applying customs tariffs. Apart from that, the new equipment will help calculate and collect customs duties more precisely.
