Belarus, China discuss new rail transportation routesMINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus and China discussed the need for new rail transportation routes between China and Europe, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Railways.

Last week head of the Belarusian Railways Vladimir Morozov and General Manager of the China Railway Lu Dongfu met in Beijing. The talks focused on the ways to strengthen cooperation in the organization of container trains on the China-Europe route. “The sides discussed the prospects of developing container services on the China-Europe-China route within the Belt and Road concept, took note of the increased container traffic in 2017 and the need for new rail transportation routes. The agenda also included the issue related to the implementation of the seven-sided agreement between the railways of China, Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Poland and Russia to strengthen cooperation in the organization of container services on the route China-Europe. The document was signed in Minsk on 20 April 2017,” the press center said.

Vladimir Morozov also held talks with representatives of the Export-Import Bank of China. The sides praised the many-year cooperation in the implementation of the investment projects of the Belarusian Railways in the electrification of tracks and renewal of the rolling stock. The parties talked over the prospects for the implementation of the provisions of the framework agreement on assistance to long-term and all-round cooperation signed by the Belarusian Railways and the Export-Import Bank of China on 10 May 2015. The implementation of investment projects on the electrification and renewal of the rolling stock of the Belarusian Railways was discussed during the talks between the head of the Belarusian Railways and Director General of the China Electrical Equipment Export-Import Company Wang Jinsong.

“Vladimir Morozov also met with Belarus’ Ambassador to China Kirill Rudy to discuss cooperation of the Belarusian Railways with Chinese companies and share opinions on further prospects of cooperation between Belarus and China in the transport and logistics sector. Apart from that, the head of the Belarusian Railways took part in the 26th plenary session of the international Coordinating Council on Trans Siberian Transportation (CCTT),” the press center said.

Vladimir Morozov presented a report on the measures to enhance the efficiency of rail container services on the route Asia-Europe amid global competition.

The 26th plenary session of the Coordinating Council on Trans Siberian Transportation, which took place in Beijing on 20-21 September, was attended by more than 200 delegates from 25 countries, including heads and plenipotentiary representatives of the railway companies of the CIS, the Baltic states, Europe and Asia, the sea ports of China, Norway, Russia, Latvia, shipping companies and international transport organizations.
