MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - The trade between Belarus and Brazil amounted to almost $700 million in January-September 2023, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich said as he met with Secretary for International Relations of the Brazilian Workers' Party Romenio Pereira, BelTA has learned.

According to Valery Mitskevich, Brazil is traditionally one of the top ten trade partners of Belarus. “In January-September 2023 trade amounted to almost $700 million, which is twice as much as last year's figures. Brazil is one of the main buyers of Belarusian fertilizers,” he said.

In his words, unfair sanctions against Belarus, which limit the possibility of shipping fertilizers to other countries, also have a negative impact on the development of Brazil's agricultural sector. “We have repeatedly drawn the attention of the world community at various levels and platforms to the fact that sanctions against the Belarusian potash industry have extremely negative consequences for global food security across the globe. According to the official data of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the exclusion of Belarus from the list of potash suppliers last year led to a 16% drop in the grain harvest in Africa. In turn, failure to use fertilizers in the fields leads to a 50% drop in yields,” the deputy chairman of the House of Representatives said.

According to Valery Mitskevich, the unconditional priority of joint activities should be the work on the restoration of all logistic ways of supplying goods previous and search for new ones, as well as ensuring the security of bank settlements.
