MINSK, 7 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim has confirmed that talks and preparations are already underway to re-direct the export of Belarusian petroleum products from Lithuania to Russian ports, Belneftekhim Press Secretary Aleksandr Tishchenko told reporters on 7 September, BelTA has learned.

“Commenting on the statement by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak on the re-direction of oil flows, I can confirm that such plans are indeed in place. Meetings will be held soon to discuss this matter. Details will be announced after the meetings are held,” the spokesperson said.

TASS reported earlier citing Alexander Novak that Belarus and Russia were considering a possibility to divert the export of petroleum products from Lithuanian ports to the Russian Federation. In his words, within September Russia will prepare proposals on the shipment of Belarusian petroleum products through Russian ports. “Work is underway to offer the economic terms that would benefit all, including the ports, forwarders, railways and the very manufacturers of petroleum products,” he said.
