MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Economy Minister Alesya Abramenko talked about accomplishments in Belarus-China cooperation in an interview with the Chinese news agency Xinhua, BelTA has learned.

According to Alesya Abramenko, Belarus-China cooperation is a road three decades long. The year 2022 opens up a new stage in enhancement and expansion of interaction between the two countries. Trade turnover has increased by more than 130 times since the diplomatic relations were established. The total volume of Chinese investments exceeds $2.6 billion. Over the course of 30 years Chinese loans have been used to implement about 30 projects. Belarus also received over $0.5 billion worth of gratuitous technical and economic aid.

At present over 50 projects are being implemented with assistance of Chinese capital. Over 10 new business initiatives are being worked on in various spheres: production sector, agriculture, logistics, digital commerce, healthcare, and education. “Within the framework of the current Year of Regions of Belarus and China we expect an invigoration of cooperation between Belarus’ oblasts and China’s provinces. We expect an expansion of the network of twinning ties, the realization of plans on advancing trade and economic cooperation with individual regions of China. We expect this cooperation to rely on constructive coupling of ideas and projects,” the deputy economy minister said.

Belarus is participating in the 5th China International Import Expo. Alesya Abramenko said: “It is a unique opportunity to enhance and expand contacts on the global scale, to worthily represent the country and its products in the international scene, to bolster our trade positions. Nowadays countries of the region are encountering unprecedented challenges. Belarus and China continue striving for openness and cooperation. China’s growing might opens up new prospects for the development of the Belarusian economy. This is why the policy in favor of further enhancement of interaction with China remains a long-term unconditional and steady priority in Belarus’ foreign policy.”

In 2021 Belarus-China trade reached a record high of $5.1 billion. Over 160 Belarusian enterprises are accredited and are intent on working on the Chinese market. Active work is in progress on the agreement on trade in services and the implementation of investments. A number of breakthrough joint initiatives are being prepared, the official pointed out.
