MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) will reveal the top 100 scientific achievements of 2017, the Year of Science, for different economic sectors, Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov told a press conference on 23 January, BelTA has learned.
“We traditionally name the top 10 most important scientific accomplishments when summing up the results of the year. We announced the top 10 achievements of 2017 the other day. Now we are working on the top 100 list of 2017 accomplishments in different economic sectors,” Vladimir Gusakov remarked.
The 2017 ranking of the NASB scientists’ top 10 achievements in fundamental and applied research includes the development of a compact portable supercomputer for processing large amounts of data and handling high-precision modeling and design tasks, finding out how Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria suppress the human immune system at the molecular level, working out the methods to convert digital orthographic records of Belarusian words into phonetic transcriptions to create the first complete Belarusian linguistic reference book, and finding unique Slavonic settlements in southern Belarus.
