Belarus’ Academy of Sciences, Russia’s Tomsk Oblast identify cooperation avenues

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Tomsk Oblast have many points for cooperation. First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Chizhik mentioned it as a delegation of Russia’s Tomsk Oblast led by Governor Vladimir Mazur came to the academy, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Chizhik mentioned the cooperation avenues Belarus is ready to offer to Tomsk Oblast. In particular, those include agribusiness, new genetic opportunities, the potential of animal husbandry, new crop varieties, R&D efforts in such fields as microelectronics, photonics, microwave electronics, technologies for advanced conversion of peat, for water purification, equipment and technologies for healthcare. The official said: “We are working out joint programs with Tomsk Oblast where the key role will be played by Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics and the Physics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. On the whole, we have many points for cooperation. And we will develop them and share the best practices.”

Tomsk Oblast Vice Governor for Science, Education, and Digital Transformation Lyudmila Ogorodova remarked that our scientists have always worked. “Today we have reached a new level of discussion of cooperation. Belarus is interesting for us as a partner. Together we could work out technologies for agribusiness, peat processing, various vaccines, medications, pharmaceutical substances for animal husbandry, seed collections, genetic breeding. We can also cooperate in the sphere of information technologies and big data, microelectronics, power engineering, petrochemical industry, photonics, components, and so on.”

The delegation was made familiar with the latest R&D products made by scientists of the organizations run by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus at a permanent exhibition designed to highlight Belarusian science’s accomplishments and their assimilation by the manufacturing sector. During the meeting with top officials of the academy the sides discussed topical matters of development of Belarus-Russia R&D cooperation and mechanisms of its realization.
