Ambassador sees great prospects for Belarus in Africa

Ambassador sees great prospects for Belarus in Africa

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Belarusian-Kenyan relations are on the rise, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Kenya Pavel Vzyatkin on the sidelines of a seminar, which gathered heads of Belarusian diplomatic missions.

Pavel Vzyatkin said: “Belarusian-Kenyan relations are on the rise. However, although we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations this year, one can say that the relations in politics, trade, and humanitarian affairs are in their nascence for now. There are great prospects in the area of industrial cooperation from the point of view of promotion of assembly enterprises, manufacturing cooperation. These are quite lengthy processes but we should look into the future and it is the African region that offers us a perspective.”

The ambassador mentioned that a visit of the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs to Kenya in April had made a significant contribution to the enhancement of the relations. Belarus and Kenya are now working hard to realize the reached agreements, forming the legal base, which should become the foundation for expanding ties in various areas. The diplomat identified the development of economic cooperation as an overriding priority.

Pavel Vzyatkin said: “Kenya is a country with the population in excess of 50 million people. By 2050 the continent’s population is estimated to reach 1.5 billion people. It is a huge and promising market with regard to economy and political relations. Kenya is the gateway to Eastern Africa. It means that all the goods delivered to Kenya can be readily sold on markets of neighboring countries.”
