Ambassador: Kazakhstan hopes to increase trade with Belarus

Ambassador: Kazakhstan hopes to increase trade with Belarus

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – Kazakhstan looks forward to a significant increase in trade with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Timur Zhaksylykov said during a press conference in Minsk on 20 December, BelTA has learned.

"Economy is a complex mechanism, where the breakdown of one gear can lead to the failure of the entire system. Economic cycles are like ebb and flow: decline inevitably replaces growth. The dynamics of trade always depends on supply and demand," the diplomat said.

He went on saying: "Trade between Belarus and Kazakhstan reached over $1 billion in 2022. However, we observed a slight decline in 2023 and 2024. In January-October 2024, trade between our countries went down by 5% amounting to $741.8 million compared to $781.1 million in the same period of 2023."

The ambassador emphasized: "Belarus and Kazakhstan are strategic partners. We have not only close economic but also historical ties. This means that we will definitely reach a new level of trade in the future."

The diplomat also pointed out: "These matters are regularly and comprehensively addressed within the framework of some effective mechanisms: Belarus-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar and First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov, and Belarus-Kazakhstan Business Council."
