GOMEL, 21 September (BelTA) – There is significant potential for the development of economic relations between Iran and Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Belarus Alireza Sanei said at a meeting with senior officials of the Gomel regional administration during the Gomel Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.
Ambassador Alireza Sanei thanked for the invitation to attend the economic forum. "Without a doubt, the forum plays a very important role in showcasing the economic potential of Gomel Oblast and Belarus as a whole," he stressed.
"The economies of Iran and Belarus complement each other, including thanks to the Eurasian Economic Union. Huge opportunities open for fruitful cooperation between the countries. Over the past 40 years, Iran has made significant progress in the development of such industries as nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals, production of medical equipment, rocket and oil and gas industries and others," the head of the diplomatic mission said. He also noted that the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Iran in March was a turning point in the history of bilateral relations.
The ambassador outlined several major avenues for the development of fruitful economic relations. He sees significant potential in terms of supply of various products bilaterally across a wide product range. For example Belarusian road-building equipment and farm machines, products of the pulp and paper industry, synthetic fibers, fertilizers, including potash may be in demand.
Gomel is hosting the 17th edition of the Gomel Economic Forum which brought together representatives of Belarus and 12 countries.
