MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) - Belarus and China have been building up trade and economic cooperation in all areas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China in an interview with BelTA on the eve of the Chinese New Year - Spring Festival and the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China, which is celebrated on 20 January.

"For 31 years, Chinese-Belarusian relations have been steadily developing and continuously improving. During this period, the level of bilateral relations has increased four times: from ‘friendly relations of cooperation’, ‘relations of comprehensive strategic partnership’, ‘relations of trusting comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation’ to ‘relations of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership’," the head of the diplomatic mission said.

According to the Chinese side, trade between China and Belarus increased from $60.8 million at the start of diplomatic relations to $5.08 billion in 2022, i.e. more than 83 times.

"The past 2022 was a year of continuing traditions and discovering new promising paths, conquering new heights in bilateral relations between China and Belarus. In September of last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a bilateral meeting in Samarkand on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, during which they decided to raise bilateral relations to the level of an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. Thus, Chinese-Belarusian relations have made a historic leap," Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong stressed.
