MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – Türkiye is ready to assist in lifting sanctions against Belarusian potash fertilizers, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said in an interview to ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Türkiye has fully reaffirmed its commitment to assisting us in getting restrictions on potash fertilizers lifted. Fertilizers are the backbone of food and agricultural security, especially in the countries of the Global South. In our opinion, in the present conditions when, according to the UN, three quarters of a billion of the world's population is starving, the United States and the European Union are committing a crime by imposing sanctions on fertilizers,” Sergei Aleinik said.
The meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and the talks between the ministers of the two countries took place in Ankara within the past week. “We reaffirmed our commitment to promoting this topic on international platforms and developing our cooperation in the bilateral format. Today Belarus meets 80% of Türkiye's demand for fertilizers,” the minister added.
