$200m in Chinese loans to retool Belarusian MAZ

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Plans have been made to spend $200 million worth of Chinese resources to retool the Belarusian automobile engineering company MAZ. Belarusian Deputy Industry Minister Dmitry Korchik made the statement during the online conference hosted by the BelTA website on 24 September.

Dmitry Korchik said: “Today Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) has a number of projects that we plan to start in 2016 not only at MAZ but also at enterprises of the holding company BelavtoMAZ in Mogilev and Osipovichi.” In his words, the possibility of using $200 million in Chinese resources for retooling the enterprise is under consideration. The project is scheduled for implementation in 2016-2018.

Speaking about plans of major mechanical engineering holding companies, the Belarusian Deputy Industry Minister noted: “Programs to guide the development of these enterprises till 2030 are in the pipeline. These programs envisage investment projects and innovation ones with a view to creating new products, penetrating new markets, raising the quality of merchandise, reducing costs, and bolstering the competitive ability.”

The promising investment projects, which are supposed to be implemented in the near future, include the project to make heat-exchange units using Nocolok technology at OAO BATE, the project to make 425-715hp eight-cylinder diesel engines for off-road vehicles at Minsk Motor Plant, the project to build a facility to make up to 300,000 tonnes of special grades of steel per annum at Belarusian Steel Works, and the project to start making dry-type distribution transformers with proprietary molded insulation at Minsk Electrotechnical Plant.
