MOGILEV, 19 March (BelTA) – BelTA’s photo exhibition Victory-One for All will make a significant contribution to the patriotic education of young people, Director General of the Belarusian News Agency BelTA Dmitry Zhuk said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition held as part of the patriotic campaign Flowers of the Great Victory! to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War on 19 March, BelTA has learned.
“We often organize exhibitions, but this project is a special one. Not only because it marks the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, but also because the situation in the world is rapidly changing, unfortunately, not for the better. These black-and-white photos evoke different emotions in different people. First of all, they are aimed at young people since war means not only heroism but also fear and death. We should be aware of this and value the peace and stability in our country,” Dmitry Zhuk emphasized.
He believes it is important to remember about the war and who won it. Today many attempts are made to rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War. A British publishing house has recently issued a big 100-volume encyclopedia about the Second World War with eleven pages dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad and almost a volume about the Normandy landings. “We should understand what this means. We should remember those soldiers thanks to whom we live in an independent country today. Their Victory laid the foundation for our independence,” Dmitry Zhuk pointed out.
“We should remember that, first of all, war means fear and pain and we should do our best to prevent anything of the kind in Belarus,” BelTA’s Director General noted.
Head of the department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Anatoly Sinkovets emphasized the importance of such creative projects for the patriotic education of the youth and expressed gratitude to BelTA’s team for the exhibition. “The future of our country is in the hands of young people. All the projects organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory demonstrate that our people value their history and treat veterans with great respect,” Anatoly Sinkovets said.
BelTA’s exhibition features some 80 photographs including black-and-white photos from the archives of the agency, works by famous war correspondents and the agency’s present-day photographers.
The photo exhibition Victory-One for All was opened in Gomel Oblast on 11 March 2015. In Mogilev it is hosted by the Chyrvonaya Zorka movie theater and will stay open till 29 March.
