INSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The OSCE welcomes the role of Belarus in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said as he met with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, BelTA has learned.
"We welcome the role of Belarus in promoting the de-escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. Minsk is well known as a meeting place for these groups (of the contact group and the working groups on Ukraine),” said Lamberto Zannier. He also expressed the hope that the Minsk agreements will facilitate the peace process.
In addition, Lamberto Zannier said: "We are living through very difficult times." He noted that there are conflicts today which no one expected and did not wish for.
As was reported, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Michael Georg Link are in Belarus on a visit on 15-16 June. Today's meeting between the guests and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei was also attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna and other representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
