MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – Representatives of the CIS, OSCE and PACE are to be invited to observe the presidential election in Belarus, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview to Belarus One TV Channel, BelTA informs.
“The number of those wishing to observe the elections is higher than we are going to invite. We will, first of all, invite people that work in the international organizations to which Belarus has certain commitments,” she said.
According to Lidia Yermoshina, there are plans to invite observers from the CIS and OSCE. “The Parliament of the Council of Europe voices its intention to come. I think they will be invited too. It will be a goodwill gesture since Belarus does not make part of the Council of Europe. I hope that the Council of Europe will assess our country’s steps towards cooperation,” the CEC chairperson said.
Lidia Yermoshina expressed hope that the choice people are going to do at the presidential election in Belarus would be balanced and without any external pressure. “I hope that the recent events worldwide as well as certain instructions of our pro-western politicians for more careful steps will make the campaign calm and composed,” she said.
