MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - Belarus is leading in many positions, setting an example for other states, UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Wu Hongbo said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV Channel, BelTA has learned.
Mr Wu Hongbo said it was his first visit to Belarus and he was impressed by what he saw. “Belarus is a country leading in many positions. What is more important, it sets an example for other states. Belarus unites three key aspects: stable economic growth, social guarantees and environmental protection,” he said.
According to the UN Under Secretary General, the UN post-2015 development agenda is actively discussed these days and Belarus has already emphasized the need to develop the national strategy of sustainable social and economic development through 2030. “Belarus is a key platform within the United Nations in many issues today,” he said.
Speaking about the forthcoming UN summit scheduled for September 2015 where the organization is expected to adopt its post-2015 sustainable development program, Mr Wu Hongbo noted: “This program is a chance for all the countries. For the first time in the UN history the program has been developed for all UN 192 member states.”
“We welcome the position of the leader that Belarus has taken in attaining the goals of the sustainable development program through the documents and programs and we hope that your country will continue to move in this direction,” he said.
