MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) - The EU will launch a new project in Belarus on the economic support of local initiatives, Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin said at the conference "Experience of applying an Area-Based Development (ABD) approach in the Republic of Belarus," BelTA has learned.
"We will launch a $7 million project to promote local economic development. The focus will be on entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises, local business incubators and social enterprises. The goal is to stimulate economic opportunities at the district and regional levels," Andrea Wiktorin said.
Plans are in place to earmark €5 million for financing start-ups, cluster initiatives, and projects that have a social effect, she said.
According to her, the new project will be a continuation of the project Support to Local Development which will be completed this year.
The project on financing local initiatives is in the works, Andrea Wiktorin added.
