MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian sanitary epidemiological service enables the country to fight against the coronavirus infection COVID-19 efficiently, WHO Special Envoy for EU and former USSR countries Vytenis Andriukaitis said in an interview to Lenta.ru.
“I want to pay tribute to my colleagues in Belarus, as there is a very high level of vaccination against influenza there. Thanks to this there is no blurred picture there, no infectious cocktail when it is difficult for medics to identify the COVID-19 infection. Belarus has kept the sanitary epidemiological system of the Soviet Union,” said Vytenis Andriukaitis.
According to the WHO special envoy, prevention and sanitary services worked well in Soviet times, which helped the union prevent many challenges in the absence of extensive diagnostic facilities and modern quality equipment. It still works in Belarus. This is a fact that helps to cope with the virus in this situation. We can say that Belarus is following the example of Sweden and the Republic of Korea, Vytenis Andriukaitis added.
