MOSCOW, 16 August (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in securing peace in Europe, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich said as he spoke at the 10th edition of the Moscow Conference on International Security in the Russian capital on 16 August, BelTA has learned.
“In general, the political and military situation in the world and in Europe is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. In this regard I would like to note that Belarus is interested in ensuring peace and security in the European region,” the state secretary of the Security Council said.
In his words, Belarus' various initiatives, including those aimed at building a new regional security architecture, are aimed at working out generally accepted rules of behavior to ensure reliable security and sustainable development. “Other states are constantly invited to jointly launch a multilateral dialogue on this topic - both within the mechanisms of interstate cooperation and between international organizations. It is important for all of us to move towards renewing existing and creating new instruments and structures that will be responsible for security in their regions,” said Aleksandr Volfovich.
“Keeping in mind these assumptions, Belarus believes it is necessary to continue establishing cooperation on foreign security policy with all the states that support the above-mentioned approach. Cooperation between the countries within international organizations, first of all the UN, should be an integral part of this interaction. The partnership between the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has great potential for Eurasian security. Сonferences and expert meetings, like today's conference in Moscow, should play an important role in this process,” said the state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus.
“Belarus aims to continue working actively with allies and partners to improve international relations. We are open for dialogue and cooperation with all those who show reciprocal readiness,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
Taking part in the Moscow Conference on International Security are over 700 guests, including defense ministers, chiefs of general staffs, delegations of defense ministries, representatives of the expert community from various countries, and representatives of international organizations. Participants of the conference are discussing problems of global and regional stability as well as various aspects of security in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
