MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – Belarus proves its adherence to peace, a safe and progressive future with deeds instead of words, BelTA learned from State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich.
The 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security is taking place in the Belarusian capital on 31 October – 1 November. Taking part in the conference are about 600 participants from over 40 countries. Those are high-ranking guests from the entire Greater Eurasia, representatives of OSCE countries, countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, heads of a number of international organizations, heads and high-ranking experts from leading think tanks of the entire Eurasian region.
Aleksandr Volfovich said: “It indicates that Belarus is an open country. It has been said that entry to our country is denied for someone. This second international conference on Eurasian security has demonstrated to the entire world Belarus’ openness and eagerness to truly prove with actions instead of words that we are dedicated to peace, to a safe and progressive future. Indeed, over 600 people were present during the first day of the conference yesterday. High-ranking foreign representatives, top-ranking government officials of other countries came and delivered their speeches. They presented their vision of the complicated geopolitical situation that is evolving in the world today. This is why the conference is quite impressive. In my opinion, the busy schedule and results of this conference will indicate that Belarus is a country not only of words but also deeds. This is why people with an open soul, an open heart come to us.”
The world is on the edge of an abyss today, the state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus stressed. “Events like today’s have never been more necessary and important for working out concrete steps meant to prevent a disaster from happening to humanity in the grand scheme of things. It is not some regional catastrophe. A global catastrophe is ahead of us,” he stated. “What is happening in the West today and what Western politicians are talking about as they shape the public opinion (the scariest thing is that they shape the opinion of their own nations) to make them believe that military might is the decisive factor today, that nuclear weapons can achieve some goals. I talked about it yesterday. Terrible lessons of World War Two, lessons of the Great Patriotic War [of 1941-1945] have been forgotten. Possible consequences have been forgotten. Unfortunately, no conclusions are being made against the backdrop of the hot conflicts that are taking place in the Middle East, in Ukraine and take thousands upon thousands of lives every day. Our president has repeatedly said: it is necessary to stop and sit down at the negotiating table. It will be done sooner or later. But how many have yet to die and for what?”
“This is why in my opinion this conference is an event that we truly need. It is taking place at the right time and covers the topics of burning interest that not only Belarus but the entire world needs,” Aleksandr Volfovich added.
