MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – A new Eurasian security architecture is needed now, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“By now, the United States of America, the collective West, have withdrawn from almost all treaties that guaranteed basic security and arms control. Today, all of this is destroyed. And today, unfortunately, the leading international platforms - the UN, the OSCE, which were designed primarily to ensure and maintain peace and stability, are becoming less significant; they have no impact on anything. Therefore, today we need a new, Eurasian security architecture. And we have proposed moving on to practical steps,” noted Aleksandr Volfovich.

The state secretary of the Security Council went on saying: “What is happening today near the border of Belarus is the uninhibited increase in military activity, a military buildup in the neighboring states, it will not lead to anything good. And there is already talk of the use of nuclear weapons. All this can lead to a really explosive situation.”

“One of our colleagues [at the meeting with high-ranking representatives of BRICS states responsible for security matters] said that what is happening in the world today is like a fire spreading further and further, covering more and more land. If it is not localized, if it is not extinguished, it will engulf a huge territory and lead to chaos,” said Aleksandr Volfovich.
