MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) – The presidents of Belarus and Russia will certainly come to an agreement, Russian journalist, editor-in-chief, host of the Echo of Moscow radio station Aleksei Venediktov told the Belarus 1 TV channel on the eve of his interview with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
“I know that our president is ready for another conversation with your president and this might happen before the New Year. I believe that the two leaders will come to an agreement,” Aleksei Venediktov said.
The Russian journalist received about 2,000 questions through social networks in the run-up to the interview. Most of them dealt with integration and relations between the fraternal nations. “There is an opportunity to ask the Belarusian president questions directly about Belarus government’s vision of the integration. I will voice this question first of all,” the journalist said.
This is not the first interview of the Belarusian head of state with Aleksei Venediktov. “I have had an interview with Aleksandr Lukashenko twice. The first one took place in 1997 and the second one in the early 2000s, however those where brief interviews lasting about 10 minutes each. However we also met and talked not for an interview when he came to Moscow and when I was here. The upcoming interview will be the first big interview in 15 years. I would like your president to speak his mind to the Russian readership and Internet users,” he said.
