MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Cancer care in Belarus develops rapidly as far as cancer treatment and cancer screening are concerned, BelTA learned from Edward Trimble, Director of the Global Health Center at the U.S. National Cancer Institute. The doctor arrived in Minsk for the first Belarusian-American international conference on topical aspects of cancer gynecology and cancer urology.
Edward Trimble noted: “I am pleasantly surprised with Belarusian cancer care, which develops rapidly as far as cancer treatment and cancer screening are concerned. The first regular meeting of oncologists from Belarus and the USA is taking place today. Opinions are being exchanged in such fields as personalized medicine and screening. I think Belarus will become a good meeting platform for oncologists from the CIS, Western Europe, and the USA.” Speaking about cooperation prospects, he mentioned that Belarus-USA joint efforts could do a lot of good in discouraging tobacco smoking as a factor that contributes to oncological diseases and cardiovascular diseases. Edward Trimble also mentioned screening as a promising cooperation avenue.
The first Belarusian-American international conference on topical aspects of cancer gynecology and cancer urology began in Minsk on 27 April. Medics from 22 countries took part in the event. Belarusian specialists came up with the idea to arrange the forum. The initiative was backed by the U.S. National Cancer Institute. Belarus-USA cooperation in oncology began in 2016 when an American delegation was invited to attend the ninth congress of oncologists and radiologists from the CIS states and Eurasia in Minsk.
The Belarusian national applied research center for oncology and medical radiology named after N.N. Aleksandrov is the Belarusian organizer of the forum. The forum will last till 29 April. A memorandum will be signed to establish the forum as a regular event.
