MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – The relations with Belarus will be important to the U.S. foreign policy, head of the delegation of the United States of America to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the Helsinki Commission Sen. Roger Wicker said at the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 6 July, BelTA informs.
Roger Wicker said he sees certain opportunities for cooperation with the new Administration of Mr. Trump. He also said that he sees great opportunities for positive changes and new joint achievements for the United States of America and the Republic of Belarus. Economic issues and domestic affairs became a priority in the USA after the elections in November. However, the country now pays more attention to the foreign policy, and the relations with Belarus will be a very important part of it, the senator said.
The head of the U.S. delegation thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome and praised the organization of the 26th OSCE PA session. Roger Wicker said that members of the delegation welcomed the speeches made by Belarusian authorities on 5 July. “I say this on behalf of all members of our delegation and the Parliamentary Assembly in general,” he noted.
Roger Wicker also said that he was in Minsk in 2009. “It is hard to believe that so much time has passed since that visit. I think we will correct the situation and will visit Belarus more often,” the senator noted.
