MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) - Representatives of the UN Country Team welcomed the efforts of the Government of Belarus to help refugees, BelTA learned from the public information department of the UN Office in Belarus.
UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha, UNHCR Representative in Belarus Jean Yves Bouchardy, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ekaterina Paniklova, UNFPA Assistant Representative Yelena Kasko met with Minister of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Belarus Marianna Shchetkina. The meeting discussed a wide range of issues related to people with disabilities, refugees and gender equality.
The UNCT representatives welcomed the leadership shown by Belarus with respect to fulfilling the needs of refugees and urged Belarusian authorities to sign and ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The parties discussed the UN Development Assistance Framework for 2016–2020 as well as agencies' Country Program Documents (CPD) for the next 5 years.
The UN Resident Coordinator informed the Minister of Labor and Social Security about the upcoming UN initiative related to the 70th anniversary of the organization — UN Train that will run through Belarusian cities in autumn this year.
