UN resident coordinator unveils cooperation plans with Belarus in SDG achievement

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - UN Resident Coordinator, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki spoke about the plans to develop cooperation with Belarus in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

“We have been closely cooperating with National SDG Coordinator Marianna Shchetkina, the Council on Sustainable Development, and the ministries working to combine these goals with national development programs. Belarus has the National Strategy for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development through 2030 and works on the prolongation of the document. Belarus is successfully working in this direction,” said Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki.

She hailed Belarus’ achievements in environmental issues, conservation of wetlands, and efforts to combat climate change. “We are working on the implementation of new projects and programs in the healthcare sector. In the future, we would like to set up accelerator platforms and work on four main priorities. First of all, this is the economic growth that includes small players such as business that favorably affects the environment and the social sector. The second priority is the support of the younger generation. The third one is the development of new technologies. Gender equality is also an important priority,” the UN resident coordinator to Belarus said.
