GOMEL, 26 October (BelTA) – Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko has thanked Belarus for enabling conditions for peace talks in Belarus. The Ukrainian head of state made the relevant statement in his speech during the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine in Gomel on 26 October, BelTA has learned.
The Ukrainian head of state told those present how the Belarusian leader had responded to his request to arrange negotiations in Minsk on ending the military conflict. Many hours of negotiations followed after that. “Documents, which will be in diplomacy textbooks forever, were signed in Minsk. They were dubbed Minsk agreements,” said Petro Poroshenko.
“Do I trust Lukashenko? All the way. And we’ve spoken about it today,” said the Ukrainian leader.
In his words, the mission of the Belarusian head of state and Belarus as a whole is extremely important. “The trilateral contact group works in Minsk. And Belarus does everything it can to organize the work,” said Petro Poroshenko. “This is why I would like to thank Alexander Grigoryevich [Lukashenko], the Belarusian nation, Minsk.”
