BREST, 4 August (BelTA) - Strengthening of cross-border cooperation is a basis in the development of relations between Belarus and Poland, Vice Marshal of the Polish Sejm Ryszard Terlecki told media in Brest on 5 August, BelTA has learned.
“We should take the next step in the development of relations. They should be founded on strengthening cross-border cooperation. This includes the development of transit routes, reconstruction and construction of new roads, small cross-border traffic,” said Ryszard Terlecki. He cited an example of a highway that is to connect Thessaloniki and Riga. “It will run alongside the Belarusian border. We need to make an exit road from it to Belarus. We have a lot of other tasks to complete,” the Vice Speaker said.
Yesterday in Brest the Polish parliamentary delegation led by Ryszard Terlecki met with Brest Oblast Vice Governor Leonid Tsuprik. “We view the visit of the Polish MPs as a serious sign for establishing closer neighborly relations between our countries. We can expand our contacts in the economic, education, cultural and other sectors,” the Vice Governor said.
“We have a lot in common. Polish enthusiasts have plans to make a film here to mark Tadeusz Kosciuszko’s 200th birthday. We also keep memory about him. We have restored his family seat in Kossovo. This is one of the examples of the things that unite us,” stressed Leonid Tsuprik.
The parties also discussed joint efforts to boost tourism, high technology medicine and education.
On 4 August the Polish delegation paid a one-day visit to Brest Oblast. The foreign guests visited the Polish House in Baranovichi, met with the city and oblast authorities. In Brest the Polish MPs paid a visit to the Poland-funded company Inco-Food.
