Team Europe predicted to top Match Europe v USA standings

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) - European athletes have high chances to top the overall standing at the Match Europe v USA which is due in Minsk in September, the captain of the Europe men’s team Marton Gyulai said when asked by BelTA.

There are disciplines where the dominance of the Americans is palpable, especially running. However, I believe that Europe will finish on top of the overall standings by the number of points. In some disciplines where Americans are traditionally strong, European athletes are currently holding the world champion titles. By the way, Yulia Nestsiarenka was not expected to win in 2004 but everybody knows how it ended, Marton Gyulai said.

As it has been reported, Team Europe will include ten Belarusian athletes. It will also comprise Mariya Lasitskene, Daniel Stahl, Armand Duplantis, Ramil Guliyev, Piotr Lisek, Thomas Rohler, Katerina Stefanidi.

Europe vs USA match is due in Minsk, Dinamo Stadium, on 9-10 September. It is expected to feature some 350 athletes. The competitions will include hammer throw, javelin throw, discus throw, 100 meters, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200 meters, 400 meters, 400m hurdles, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, 3,000 meters steeplechase, 4x100 meters relay, mixed relay (200-200-400-800 meters), shot put, triple jump, high jump, long jump, pole vault.

Each discipline will feature eight athletes (four from Europe and four from the United States).
