MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Armenian athletes have arrived at Minsk National Airport to take part in the 2nd CIS Games, BelTA has learned.
“A team of 60 athletes arrived in Minsk today. We will compete in 14 sports. Our team is good and big. It is great that many young athletes participate in these competitions. The Games for them can be the first major competition in big sport. Our athletes have a great mood and they have come here to show their best,” Artur Sedrakyan, Head of the High Performance Sport Department of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, said.
David Simonyan, winner of the 1st CIS Games, champion of the European Youth Boxing Championships, has come to Belarus for the first time. “I think these Games will be as good as the previous ones, and I view them even more important than the European Championships. I've been studying the fighting style of my opponents and I'm fully ready for the competition,” David Simonyan said.
Press attache of the Armenian delegation Shushanik Hakobyan added that she had been to Minsk during the 2nd European Games and the city made a great impression on her. “Belarus proved to be a good host of such large-scale events. Almost 20% of our athletes participated in the 1st CIS Games in Kazan, and many of them are looking forward to meeting their rivals. This year we are highly determined to win,” Shushanik Hakobyan emphasized.
