MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - The CIS is interested in Belarus’ experience of holding the Year of Culture, Belarus’ culture Minister Boris Svetlov said in a press briefing on the occasion of the Culture Workers Day, BelTA has learned.
According to the Minister, during a meeting of the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States held in Astana on 5-6 October the Belarusian experience of holding the Year of Culture aroused great interest. Such initiatives will surely find application in other CIS countries.
The main event of the Year of Culture in Belarus, in opinion of Boris Svetlov, was the development of the body of laws – the Code on Culture. No other country has such a document, though many are already making steps toward the improvement of the legislation, he said.
The Minister also noted that starting from 2017 Belarus will be holding a three-year chairmanship in the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation. This will allow making a good influence on the cultural processes not only in Belarus but the CIS countries, Boris Svetlov added.
