MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) - Sudan is interested in expanding economic cooperation with Belarus, Sudan President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir said at a ceremony to open the Sudanese Embassy in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir said that the opening of the Sudanese diplomatic mission is the final item on the program of his visit to Belarus. The Embassy was opened in accordance with the Belarusian-Sudanese agreements reached during the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Sudan.
With the opening of the embassy in Minsk the relations between the two states will raise to a new level, the Sudanese head of state believes. He highlighted the importance of political stability and good economic development in Belarus. “Our mutual desire to develop joint projects is a good foundation for bilateral cooperation,” the Sudanese president said.
He touted the advantages of Sudan, especially its rich natural resources and good geographical location. Sudan is ready to contribute to the development of contacts of Belarus with the countries of the region.
The Sudanese president expressed a special word of thanks to the leadership of Belarus for the efforts made to open the Sudanese Embassy in Minsk and expressed the hope for the opening of a Belarusian diplomatic mission in Khartoum in the near future.
The ceremony to inaugurate the Sudanese diplomatic mission was attended by Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas, representatives of the Sudanese delegation and the diplomatic corps accredited in Minsk.
The flag of Sudan was hoisted near the Embassy of Sudan.
