MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Head of the Swiss Olympic Association Jurg Stahl hailed the 2nd European Games in Minsk and Belarus' experience and infrastructure to host highest-level international sports events as he met with First Vice President of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee (NOC) Viktor Lukashenko in Lausanne, BelTA has learned from the NOC press service.
Jurg Stahl also noted that he is familiar with the achievements of Belarusian athletes at major international competitions in biathlon, hockey, rhythmic gymnastics and is interested in developing relations in sport between the two countries. The parties discussed the prospects to bolster ties between the Olympic committees. Viktor Lukashenko noted that Team Belarus won two awards at the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games: a gold medal in the Men's Mixed NOC 3-on-3 event and a bronze medal in biathlon. The meeting was also attended by Secretary General of the Belarusian NOC Polina Golovina and Charge d'Affaires of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Belarus Pavel Matsukevich.
During the visit to Lausanne, the Belarusian delegation is set to get acquainted with the sports facilities of the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games, attend competitions and hold a series of bilateral meetings.
