MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – South Korea values Belarus’ contribution to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and believes that the country could play the same big role in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, taking into account its experience of voluntary renunciation of nuclear weapons, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Belarus Kim Yong Ho told BelTA.
“We highly value Belarus’ role in helping settle the Ukrainian crisis, the organization of the Minsk process and believe that Belarus could play the same big role in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” the diplomat noted. In his words, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union Belarus voluntarily abolished nuclear weapons, completing the withdrawal of its nuclear weapons in 1996.
“Belarus is a good example of voluntary renunciation of nuclear weapons. It would be great to see Belarus’ role in the renunciation of nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula to be as leading as in the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” the diplomat said.
