MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Slovakia is a reliable partner of Belarus in Europe, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas, BelTA has learned.
According to Vladimir Andreichenko, a lot has been done recently to develop Belarus-Slovakia relations, and Ambassador Jozef Migas who has been the head of the diplomatic mission this year played a big role in it. The speaker of the Belarusian parliament remarked that many important events were held in this period. These include the visit of Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico to Belarus in November 2016.
Vladimir Andreichenko said that the bilateral trade of Belarus and Slovakia made up to about $162 million in 2016. It reached $270 million in 2011. The speaker is convinced that there are good prospects in the trade and economic relations.
He also reminded that Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia Andrej Danko is expected to visit Belarus. The terms of the visit are discussed. It may take place in June.
Ambassador Jozef Migas, in turn, said that he hopes for the development of bilateral relations taking into account the progress in the parliamentary activities. The diplomat said that he had been the speaker of the National Council of Slovakia for four years (in 1998-2002). In his words, it was a rather complicated time, 519 draft laws were passed, and Slovakia even had to amend the Constitution. It was done in order to help the country fulfill the regulations and integration requirements in view of its accession to the European Union.
