MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) - The situation in Belarus is stable and under control, but there is no room for complacency, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told the media after the Security Council meeting on 18 June, BelTA has learned.
“We have a stable, manageable situation. Nevertheless, there is no room for complacency. We need to keep track of events. We need to know, as the head of state said, what is going on inside the country and beyond its borders in order to stay ahead of our adversaries by at least one step,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
On 18 June, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko convened a meeting of the Security Council. The members of the Security Council considered the draft regulatory act related to the issues of assessing the state of national security. The meeting was held as a follow-up to the new National Security Concept adopted at the Belarusian People's Congress.
Aleksandr Volfovich shared the details of the discussion. According to him, the meeting was a scheduled one and there was no emergency in it.
The draft document defines the main indicators and criteria for assessing the state of national security in nine areas. “The geopolitical situation is developing. It does not stand still. The world is changing. The latest changes necessitated adjustments to many provisions of the decree,” the state secretary of the Security Council said. “Taking into account the emergence of new risks, challenges and threats, the political sector has been supplemented with a number of new indicators that ensure a more objective, realistic and reliable assessment of the situation in the political sector for the development of appropriate decisions.”
The draft decree pays special attention to biosecurity issues, identifying five strategic directions on which decisions will be made. The Healthcare Ministry will be the coordinator.
“The innovations, reported at the Security Council meeting, will give a more complete and objective assessment of the state of national security. The algorithm of work will remain intact: the agencies that coordinate different sectors will analyze and offer to consider a particular assessment of national security. The State Secretariat of the Security Council supervises the work and, annually, before 25 March, submits the analysis with the proposed assessment to the president for approval,” Aleksandr Volfovich explained.
According to him, the head of state has generally approved the draft decree. Some adjustments will be made to the document, taking into account the recent discussions.
