Shantsev: Nizhny Novgorod can assist Belarus with training of nuclear experts

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) - One of the most successful projects of cooperation in education between Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is the professional training of specialists for the nuclear industry, Valery Shantsev, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia, said as he visited the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU), BelTA has learned.

"One of the biggest projects of joint cooperation is the construction of a nuclear power plant. Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is a recognized atomic cluster: we host the Russian Nuclear Center and a number of enterprises that produce the bulk of equipment, technologies and control systems. We train highly qualified specialists for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants," Valery Shantsev said.

During the visit Valery Shantsev was awarded a badge and a certificate of Honorary Professor of the BNTU.

The Deputy State Secretary, Member of the Permanent Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State, Alexei Kubrin, noted that the interaction between two universities – the BNTU and the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University is an example how high-tech research achievements can be put into practice.

The talks between Belarus’ Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov and Nizhny Novgorod counterpart Sergei Naumov took place in Minsk on 2 April. The parties discussed the state and prospects of development of education, science and the youth policy. The Education Minister of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast noted that he saw the first resource center in Belarus ten years ago. "We started working on this at that time, and we now have about 20 such centers," he said. Resource centers are established at the lyceums to train specialists in new technologies with the help of new equipment across various fields.

Agreements were signed in the fields of education and the exchange of students and undergraduates. The delegation of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast visited the Minsk State Linguistic University, the Belarusian National Technical University and the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University.
