MOGILEV, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarus has laid down good foundation for its further sustainable economic growth, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha said at the international investment forum Mill of Success in Mogilev on 4 November, BelTA has learned.
“A lot has been recently done in Belarus to secure sustainable economic growth. The country has fulfilled all the Millennium Development Goals. Belarus is ranked 50th in the Human Development Index, surpassing Russia, Kazakhstan and many other countries. Over the last five years the poverty level in Belarus reduced to 5%,” noted Sanaka Samarasinha.
At the same time Sanaka Samarasinha believes that the country should not rest on its laurels and needs to move further in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The unequalled human potential should become the main support of the state in these efforts. “Mogilev Oblast and the country in general should enhance the quality of education, redirect the youth to the jobs that will be in demand tomorrow, pay more attention to healthcare development and a healthy lifestyle to extend life expectancy,” said the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Belarus.
“There is a need for finding innovative approaches to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals so that no person was left behind during the fulfillment of this important mission. Sustainable peace and security are impossible without development. Sustainable development is impossible without peace and security,” Sanaka Samarasinha added.
