Ryzhenkov: Belarus’ Constitutional Court is in keeping with international legal norms

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ Constitutional Court operates in keeping with international standards of constitutional law, First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov said at the opening of the international conference “Modern Constitutional Development: the Role of Constitutional Control in Constitutionalization of Law” on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

Maksim Ryzhenkov noted that the agenda and the entry list of the conference “is a testimony to the fact that the Constitutional Court of Belarus works within the framework of international legal standards and actively promotes international contacts”. He read out a welcoming address of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the participants of the forum.

The conference is taking place in Minsk on 30-31 May and is timed to the 25th anniversary of the Constitution and the establishment of the Constitutional Court in Belarus. Among the participants is Chairman of Azerbaijan Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev. He told reporters that constitutional law is getting more and more relevant. This area of law cannot evolve in isolation, therefore, it is necessary to strengthen international contacts and share best practices, which is the main objective of the ongoing forum in Minsk

Farhad Abdullayev added that over 25 years the Constitutional Court of Belarus has gone a long way in its development. “In this difficult time, amidst globalization, it remains stable and predictable and keeps working to protect the rights and freedoms of people,” he said.

Attending the forum are delegations of the constitutional courts of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Russia, the Czech Republic, representatives of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), MPs, and scientists.
