MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – A group of Russian construction workers deployed at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) have tested positive for coronavirus. They were on quarantine when their repeated tests came back positive, Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik said during a live stream on the Youtube channel of the National Press Center on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

During the stream the minister was asked to comment on information about detection of coronavirus in Russian construction workers at the Belarusian nuclear power plant. “Indeed, a group of construction workers who were on quarantine have tested positive  for the virus during the repeated testing. All of them have been hospitalized by now. A detailed examination is underway,” Vladimir Karanik said.

He emphasized that these people did not take part in construction, startup and commissioning works, but were on a 14-day quarantine. “Taking into consideration the technical complexity of the facility, the need to ensure its sustainable operation and prevent the spread of the infection among the construction team, a decision was made to test all foreign specialists who come for installation supervision, startup and commissioning works. Before getting down to work, all of them are placed into quarantine and are under medical supervision,” the minister informed.
